With more than 4 years working experience in the laundry and dry cleaning, here in this article I will be teaching you what laundry and dry cleaning is all about and how to set it up and build it successfully if you follow my instructions properly here.
Laundry and dry cleaning is a type of business that involves washing of clothes, carpets and car washing. Dry cleaning is a cleaning of garments that does not involve water; it makes use of solvent that cleans and maintain the color of the fabric and the size especially expensive garments like suits and jeans wears etc.
The laundry and dry cleaning industry is huge which any serious person be it a graduate or non-graduate can establish one. With just #20,000.00 Naira one can startup the business and build it gradually. This business if done property for just 2 to 4 months it can start generating #15,000.00 to #30,000.00 per month. Before you can think of starting laundry and dry cleaning there are things you need to do or know because jumping into this business without proper knowledge can be very risky venture for example burning of clothes during pressing, staining of clothes and missing clothes etc.
Below are the requirements you need to consider before venturing in the industry:
·         Get the proper training first: ensure you know how to wash, dry clean, starch and press clothes properly.
·         After you have acquired the necessary skills. Here you need to buy a pressing iron either a used iron or brand new depending on your budget, purchase a bucket, bowl and a cotton yard that is if you don’t already have them, buy starch either a local starch or package starch depending on what customers’ needs are, you can buy a tag gun for labeling of clothes or label clothes using pen and write directly on the inner side of the clothes for easy identification, buys packaging leathers, and lastly purchase a good detergent like Arial or sunlight which are also good for washing machine.
·         In this stage depending on your budget. If you are starting with #20,000.00, I will recommend you start from home and gradually grow it to a stage where need for a shop rent becomes necessary. Now if you have a big budget above #200,000.00, this amount can afford you a shop for rent, a table and standing hangers, a good washing machine that will give you a very good performance and other things I have stated above.
·         Now there are questions you need to ask yourself as an entrepreneur are:
1.       You need to define who your customers are.
2.       What kind of location will be good for my business?
3.       Does the business location have source of water or electricity available?
These are questions that beg for answers from you. After you must have provided the right answers then you will need to go on feasibility studies to determine what your business needs are.
·         Make sure you have a very good marketing plan because without this i doubt if your business will strive easily. Ensure you make business cards and banner place at the frontage of the shop.
·         Lastly, keep records of the business transaction so as to measure the performance of the business. Also ensure you keep proper records of customers’ information for future occurrences.
